Images not recognized as pictures

Hello all,

I have some images that I have uploaded with Gallery remote and some of those images can not be rotated. I looked at the code and added some debug info trying to find out what the problem is. All those images that I can not rotate are not recognized internally as pictures and therefore I see "Edit File" instead of "Edit Picture". Why is that? And is there an automatic/easy way to tag those images as pictures? Can any one help?
