Getting Gallery Appliance to store pictures Outside the virtual machine?

With the new year, I've decided to give Gallery another shot. Early last year I had a tragic hardware failure and I was never able to restore the database into the new Gallery, so I gave up. I love Gallery and I don't think Flickr or Facebook even begin to compare, particularly for privacy.

I'm now using Gallery 2.x on a Virtual Machine (http://www.turnkeylinux.org/gallery). I'm hoping this will make it immune to Windows updates and hardware failures. The issue is that I need to store my pictures outside the VM, which is available to the host OS (Windows 7). How do I make the Gallery VM use an external NTFS drive outside the VM?
