I have 3 Windows systems (XP, Vista, 7) that I use to mass upload photos to 3 Gallery2 2.3.1 systems using Upload Applet. Over the past year, the Upload Applet has stopped working on one, then another and last night my final Windows Vista system leaving me with no way to do bulk uploads. Realizing it was a Java problem, I did a complete unload of Java 1.7 and after many reinstalls and reboots, all I could see from the Java Test website on any system was the coffee cup spinning circle. I tried to resolve referencing several suggestions online, first tried disabling the ip6 option of network adapter settings (tried - didn't work), saw posts suggesting change to java configuration (didn't understand) and finally idea to open Java option in Control Panel and use Java tab to search for other runtime environment settings (took forever but still didn't fix the problem).
I finally uninstalled Java 1.7 and located version of Java 1.6 jre-6u35-windows-i586.exe. I installed 1.6 but of course the default "check and add updates automatically" came up but luckily I also have zone alarm which caught the Windows Installer before it tried up update automatically to 1.7. I immediately went into Control Panel, Java, Updates and set them off (I know this is dangerous but zone alarm blocks java except when I use it).
(Good luck finding a link to the 1.6 Java on some of the "old software versions" websites. Surrounding the item you searched for (jre-6u35-windows-i586.exe) you will be confused with all sorts of big green "DOWNLOAD" blocks that take you to sponsors products that have absolutely nothing to do with what you are looking for. Just click on the small print with the same name of what you searched for)
By returning to Java 1.6 my Upload Applet is again working perfectly. I am uncertain who is responsible for the near daily updates to Java, the fact that I observe on 4 systems I manage that the Java updates are seldom successful, where I invariably have to always go in and remove multiple listed Java Install instances from the Programs/Features panel of Windows, then reinstall Java from scratch. Not only has this poor software engineering been time consuming and frustrating to support, but with the most recent update to Java 1.7, none of my computers will run Java any more. Unfortunately (from a maintenance perspective) I have several full featured apps that require Java and two way communication, so the horribly inadequate update facility of Java always shows up easily on my systems. Whoever is responsible for the deployment of this ridiculously inadequate update software should probably find something else to be responsible for. I am not sure if others have the same problems I encounter but Java in its current state from both the perspective of not working at all with the latest version 1.7 as well as the previous requirement of jumping through hoops when it auto updates, is totally beyond belief.

Gallery2 Upload Applet still fails to work. As of version: Java Version 1.7.0_07 from Oracle Corporation
Is anyone working on the failure of Upload Applet with Java 1.7 and later?
I recently went into Windows control panel and Java option to set off my autoupdate but Jave managed to update anyway.
Again Gallery2 Upload Applet fails with releases AFTER Java 1.6 jre-6u35 (this is the last release of Java that Upload Applet will work on.
This seems like a major issue. Am I the only one using Gallery2????

You may be the only one using the java applets.
We recently asked to have the .jar files resigned and met with some resistance.
Java has horrible memory management/limits and was a pain to manage large uploads from the beginning.
Hence the reason I wrote the Uploadify module.
