What host do you use?

I'm with http://www.LessHost.com

They don't install gallery on the server I'm on. That's how I found out about Gallery. They do install it for free but they install on the newer servers with Ensim 3.5. I quess I have 3.0. Some sales tech. was explaining it. They put it in your control panel but only on 3.5 version.

They said they can change my server but then I would have to reupload everything and install my boards and other files again. (Which I don't want to do).

What about you guys? Any recommended hosts? I like http://www.lesshost.com but I'm not sure what else is out there. A friend recommended this one and so far it's worked out really good for the last 7 months and my monthly bill is cheap and there service is so much better than others I have used.

I've been with ipowerweb, valueweb, doteasy, geocities, earthlink, and a couple others. wow, this is the longest i've stayed.

I'm with www.theotronix.com and they are great. I get 200 Gigs of bandwidth a month for $20. That's pretty cheap. I also get 100 Gigs of disk space. :D

What host do I use? My own PC chugging along in the basement.

Build your own. Even an onld Pentium 3 with enough disk space and memory can do the job. In fact, that's what I'm running:

RedHat 8
Pentium 3 - 1Ghz
384Kb RAM(used spare parts)
Just recently added 150Gb of disk space.

Build your own and you can do what ever you want...without anyone telling you what you can do/don't.

And it's cheap! :)

I think it's about time the "which host question" got asked!
Choosing the right host can mean a lot less frustration and more power to you when it comes to building and maintaining your website(s).

Your website is limited to the capabilities of your host and you'll agree that in order to maximise your potential you need to remove all obstacles in your way.

From years of marketing experience I've found the one thing that has caused the most problems is my hosting! - It all adds up. One example that springs to mind was when I was installing some simple forum software on one of my sites; Sure, I've done it many times, but one of the problems has always been the host's MySQL support; they either don't have an easily accessible system, their file permissions are, to say the least, not the greatest or they demanded to charge high fees for setting up a database.

If you are planning to host your site then I recommend hosting on a linux based system instead of a windows based host as their operation is a lot more free in terms of flexibility and handling.

One host I would highly recommend above all others is Dream Host. I use them for all my sites now and they are brilliant. With their "one click installs" for web forum software, calendars, media galleries and more, it's a very impressive and powerful service.

You also receive a free domain name when your register your hosting package, which is also very affordable.

It does exactly what it says on the tin. Nowadays I don't worry about my hosting.

well.. it depends on how you are going to use your website..

when you are using your site to upload lots of pictures for fun or for sale, i would have to reccomend that you use sites which has high bandwidth and fast server times.. dont bother to use services which give packages that includes other features like email setup, subdomain setup and other cpanel stuff that you are unlikely to use for your site.. for this i recommend that you use YAHOO hosting since yould be able to take advantage of their servers which are, i think, one of the beset configurated servers for pics..

when you are planning an institutional, service or group website, i recommend that you use sites with medium bandwidth but with more feature capabilities like forums, galleries and email..

however, if you are the typical webmaster, where you are not only concerned with one stuff in particular, but also need to upload scripts, codes and other programs to your website, i recommend that you use optimized hosting for such an extensive web development.. we currently use DAYANAHOST.. i recommend it to you too..
