G1--->G2 migration halts

G1-->G2 migration. On two servers (win2k3, redhat8) now I have migrated G1 to G2 (4,000 images or so) and the migration process hangs. Then i have to go back, find out where it left off, and try and 'resume' it. If this is a problem that can't be resolved, maybe a link on the migration status page that says (click here if this times out/doesnt finish, and have it automatically resume) would be useful.

IIS is not apache. Could you clarify your web server software? What EXACTLY does it do when it hangs? Does the bar just stop, does any error appear? What shows up in your error logs? Right after you try does do you get an "unable to allocate memory" error in your apache error log?

Also, what image does it hang on? Was that image cropped in G1? I have had some reports of migrations failing on cropped images. Let me know. Thanks!

jmullan, I take it, there are two servers (win2k3/IIS and RH8/Apache) that both have the same problem. If that's true - it is more likely the problem with a particular image (like cropped - as you are suggesting), as opposed to a particular environment (eg, running out of memory)...

virshu is correct. Two servers. However after upgrading the linux server to march 29th gallery, I get a bunch of errors. first it was locking issues. so I switched from file (nfs system i find out) to database, now I get database_storage_errors.

gallery runs fine on my windows server after importing my albums only a few at a time. (no there was no g1 cropped pictures)

Its still beta, I realize that, im not complaining... Its a great product and I look forward to some of the final releases.

In the meantime if anyone wants access to either server for extensive testing (especially this linux server seems like a good candidate) just let me know ill be happy to help out.

I know that you aren't complaining. I'm just trying to get useful information out of you. Virshu really isn't helping you decribe your exact symptoms.

On your windows box, it sounds like you were running out of memory. Apparently you are past that problem.

On your redhat box, I still don't know if you ever successfully completed a migration, whether all at once, or piece by piece.

Go open a new thread about your database locking errors. Better yet, completely delete your gallery2 installation, download the latest nightly build, and reinstall from scratch. If you still have locking errors, open a new thread about those, solve them, and then come back to thread thread and follow these instruction:

Do the migration again, and this time, if you have errors, please answer my questions:

P.S.: Allocate as much memory as you can to php for a migration.

thanks. I'll do that over the next couple days.

on my windows server, with 1gb of ram, I have 16mb of memory allocated to php i believe. what should i set it to 32?

your right. i was wrong. i had mine set to default 8m. so that was probably the problem with me importing 4,000 images (200 or so albums i think)...

great. maybe 1 problem solved. i'll completely delete my gallery installation off the linux server and start over. however, I have a copy of my gallery 1 on this linux server as well (which i think is running fine, i sync it with my copy on my 2003 box to maintain a current copy there), anyways, point being i can easily go through the g1-g2 import process over and over.

ill start a new thread soon.
