I'm going crazy trying to figure out how to fix this problem. Sometimes when I access my Gallery everything works fine, but more often then not a couple of the thumbnails will not show. The thumbnails that don't show are random and don't seem to have any type of pattern. If I click on the thumbnail half the time the image shows up and the other half I get a Forbidden Error. I'm so confused . . . any help would be greatly appreciated.

As I said before, sometimes it works . . . sometimes it doesn't. That's what I can't figure out. I took some screenshots from this evening when it started acting weird again:
The Missing Thumbnail:

Forbidden Error:

Thanks for the help
[note] also if I refresh the page it fixes the problem half the time . . . and my main.php has been chmodded to 777, so I don't know why it says its forbidden

sh3kar, I was wondering if there is any error messages in the server log... BTW, I am also seeing randomly missing thumbnails on your site (FF 1.0.2, W2K).

how do I view the server log (sorry for the newbie-ish question)?

somebody is hosting your site, right? What software do they use? If it's CPanel - there is an icon and a link "Error log". If it's (for example) 1&1 - then you are hosed...

here's what's in the error log:
Edited by fryfrog: Removed all the useless favicon, 404.shmtl and 403.shtml not found errors.

Once you remove all the useless parts, you see that all your errors are "denied by server configuration" but I don't have a clue whats causing it.
Does your web directory happen to be a symlink or something weird like that?
I browsed your site and after visiting one or two images I was easily able to duplicate your problem. A refresh usually cleared it up as well. Additionally, I was able to stay at the same page and constantly refresh and would eventually hit a 403 or 404 error. Do you have any other web apps or pages on your site, so I could see if only gallery does this?
Maybe throw up a page with phpinfo(); in it or point me to something else you host.

This is almost certainly an apache configuration problem, but I suppose you could post your httpd.conf and someone might spot an issue. In the mean time, poke around in your apache config and see if YOU see anything goofy. If its a host though, i dunno

and is there anything I could ask my host to look into/fix to get this working?

I hit refresh about 5 times on your <?php phpinfo(); ?> page and I get the same problem. I don't have a clue whats causing it, but at least now you can point your host to that and say "hey, hit refresh 5 or 6 times and wait for an error". Its definatly not gallery.

well, i had to refresh 30-50 times until i got the error

I am having the same issue with my gallery. Any update as to what is the root cause for this behavior?

I just answered my own question.
The problem I was having is with mod_dosevasive and changing the settings on the module fixed the random 403 forbidden errors.

I too am having this issue, could someone please post what they did with the mod_doevasive module to get it working again. Don't need to be specific with any server info, but just enough info that I could pass along to my host.
