G2 overlay, simple CMS added to G2?

Hey all,

I was wondering if there is anything out there for G2 yest that gives you CMS types of functionality whithout the overhead of a full blown CMS and G2 integration.

What I am looking for is a simple G2 gallery with a news section, forum, and maybe the ability to add a whos online, local weather, address book.

I like the way G2 is layed out and feel that it will be functional enough for a family website but cant stand the overhead and massive administration that comes with the integration.

I have tried G2 and Xaraya and well thats just alot of work.. I would like to use a single login through G2 to maintain everything on the site.

Well this is alittle more than simple, if anyone has links, suggestion, already made pages, etc... please let me know

What you want: G2, news, forums, who's online, local weather, address book.
This sounds like G2+CMS, or G2+phpbb+hacks/mods.
What I could imagine: that there will be G2 modules for news, weather, who's online, ...
but a forum is too complex.

So you will end up with 2 applications that manage sessions (user authentication) and user data (email address, ...) for themself. G2 and the forum. Or G2 and the CMS.

you mean, xaraya is a lot of work, right? because the integration itself works automatically...
Are you concerned about writing the integration code? If so, what I did for xaraya is far more complicated than the minimal integration.

well I was more concerned with not being able to get xaraya and G2 to work also becasue G2 is beta and Xaraya is not at 1.0 yet there is alot of upgrading in the future and possiblites of incompatibility.

I was just hoping to simplify things so that family members could use the site easily.

you have done some amazing work so far and im sure oyu will have more brilliant work ahead of you, maybe one day a newbie like myself will have thing all figured out and working.

elarkin, right. even if other CMS like drupal or blogging software like WP seem more complete/final than xaraya, the G2 integration for those applications is less far than the xaraya integration. So, what ever you choose, you have some upgrading in front of you.
Hopefully, it will look different in summer.
