I have to say, I quite like the styling of this forum. Is it a custom solution, or a standard forum, do you mind me asking?

I registered for the forum because I wanted to ask what the forum script was. This is an awesome looking forum! The script/software driving it looks pretty good, too.

It would be great if the forum designer could share a couple of tips, i'd really like to know:

1. How you get page number nav to display at the top as well as bottom of topics
2. The jump to last post icon on the topic listing page
3. The posted by and topic icon/url at the top of each post instead of the default drupal stuff.

1. most of our theme changes are done reasonably well, but your first question is a real hack.. we have a themename_pager function which gets theme_pager output then returns <tr><td>$pager</td></tr>$pager
Our forum layout is in a table.. so the $pager inside the <td> shows in the normal location at the bottom.. the one in an invalid location (not inside a <td>) magically gets rendered above the <table>! at least by gecko, IE, opera.

2. themename_forum_list function overrides the default display and adds that link.

3. our node template for forums is fully customized

That's about all the detail we'll give.. try the drupal.org forums for more help on drupal themes, thanks.

Is there a central place where various url's are listed of Gallery users as samples of what has been done? I would like to see what others feel about my site as well as look at what others have done with theirs.

I don't like how this forum totally ignores <br> tags or new lines. It looks like crap when you've written a nice looking post. All the paragraphing is gone.

yes, any change in this handling was not intentional.
i did a quick check and it appears the markup is ok (one newline makes a <br/>, 2 newlines wraps a <p>aragraph), so maybe the css changed.. i'll look into it when i get a chance.

the change was very recent, 17-Dec. it was intended to affect spacing in lists, not paragraphs. i changed the paragraph setting back.

one blank line above.

two blank lines above.

three blank lines above.
these are all just treated as paragraphs and spaced accordingly. why would you need more blank space than that in a forum post?

I think this forum is quite archaic.

In comparison I think the POTN one (http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/index.php) looks a lot better. Two features it has which are missing here:

View counts
You can see the beginning of the post if you hover over the subject (a very useful feature).

Also, when I post a new thread here I get a massive gap between the text window and the submit button.

my 2 cents on this:

I think you shoul upgrade to a better forum script like simplemachines/vbulletin/invision.

Especialy simplemachines has a great community and advanced features. There are some features missing here like a better forum search engine, forum rss and especialy forum/post subscription. We could for instance subscrive one anouncement forum to keep up the updates.
A stronger forum script woul be great for an even better comunnity inside Gallery.

I dont mean to sound critical with this reply, i am just used to the foruns like in joomla.org, coppermine-gallery.net, etc and i think the script itself helps much the interaction in the forum.
