Upload error: Upload failed: 'user id: 5 doesn't have permission: core.addDataItem for item id: 120'. I found another thread with this subject, but with no solution so I thought I would repost this question. When I selected the Upload applet I was logged on as user 6: admin, with full priv. Id 6 is guest. After this error, I am logged out from Gallery and have to log in again. Also, the upload applet states that ImageMagik is not installed, when in fact when I test it, Gallery2 shows it passes tests and is version 6.0.7 I am using upload applet 1.0.0, Gallery2 core version is 1.0.0.2 Keith |

When you post there, typically everyone that has posted in it will get an email and one of them may have resolved the problem and never posted back, and your post might get them to come back with a solution. If you found my help useful, please consider donating to Gallery. |

I'm experiencing the exact same issue and I'd be curious to know if the commonality here is the use of Gallery with an alternate system eg: phpBB2, Phpnuke, etc.. I'm guessing that the wrong User information is being passed but I'm damned if I know why, how or where... So, if anyone has any input on this please let's have it and we can solve the problem... |

Make sure you have access to ur PHP INI file. You must change max_upload to like 10MB. If you have a shared host, i believe u can hack it with your htaccess file. |

Same problem but php.ini is allright? Uploading from web browser works? Problem came with gallery 2.1 update i believe? Upload error: Upload failed: 'user id: 5 doesn't have permission: core.addDataItem for item id: 21039'. Info: Gallery version = 2.0.1 core 1.0.0.1 At the samed time i'm having this problem too: Error (ERROR_MISSING_OBJECT) * in modules\core\classes\helpers\GalleryItemAttributesHelper_medium.class at line 61 (GalleryCoreApi::error) Cant access some of albums. Database corrupted or what? Files are there i checked. Is there anything to do? Had minor server crash but managed to restore some system files and got it back online. |

I have the exact same error: "Upload error: Upload failed: 'user id: 5 doesn't have permission:", even down to the "'user id: 5" part. G2 is integrated with phpBB2. Is there any resolution to this one yet? Thanks, Tom |

hi guys, i might have found something. in my installation the guest user has the user id 5. u might wanna check if it is the same with ur gallery. i assume that the guest user doesn't have the right to upload pictures or add sub elements (not sure what the correct name of that right in english is- i am running my gallery in german). a workaround would be to give the guest user that right, upload ur pictures and take the right away again. downside would be that a random guest user that would look at ur gallery in that moment could upload pictures as well. if my assumption is right, the applet is not executed under the user (rights) of the logged in user. cu |

yes, of course. The problem depends on the pc I am using. I have two pcs i am not able to upload photos with and two others working. All have the same browsers, same versions. There must be any circumstance in which a user is logged in but the upload applet runs with the guest account. Although the situation is reproducable on my site I am not able to tell the differences between the pcs it is working from the pcs it is not working at, sorry. I you have anything I can take a deeper look at ...? |

i guess, there is some prob with the firebird-browser. I´m getting " 'user id: 5 doesn't have permission: core.addDataItem for item id: 1348'." Every time with firefox 1.5.02 . With IE 6.0.2 the upload is working. (User: "admin", upload-applet, and same pc) Arnd |

I got the same error today, yesterday everything worked fine. It affects all my different G2 installations and both browsers (firefox and ie) on my PC, so I think it’s a Java-Runtime problem. Okay, I've tried everything here and haven't had any luck with the upload applet. I have a fresh install of Gallery 2. I'm using multisite. Here is the sys info: I tried Firefox and IE with no effect. Uploading using the web browser works great. I even tried Gallery Remote and that worked great. It's just the upload applet that seems to have a problem. Any fixes yet? This has been a problem it seems for over a year. |

An update... I just installed jdk1.5.0_07 and the upload applet appears to be working now. The version that I had previously installed was jdk1.5.0_06. We'll see how long it stays working.. |

I'm seeing the same problem here. Like the others, it's happening with Firefox and XP. The setup does work sometimes as I've uploaded pictures with this browser/OS combo before. But I just went to upload more pictures to my album and it gave me the same error that other folks are getting. Just wanted to report that there is still an issue... EDIT: My java install says that I'm running the latest version and there are no updates. I deleted my gallery cookie and logged in again and it fixed the issue for now. It appears to be cookie related somehow? |

I'm getting the same error. I'm running jre-1_5_0_07-i586-1 and Firefox 1.5.0.4 Gallery version = 2.1.1 core 1.1.0.1 EDIT: I tried Drinyth's suggestion of clearing out the cookies and it didn't help on my system. |

I was having much the same problem. I tried cleaning cache in java to no avail. As a last resort I tried re-installing Gallery version = 2.1.1 core 1.1.0.1 Installation would hange on installation where it was trying to clean the cache under g2data/cache/derivative I had to manually delete directories 0 through 9 and all of their contents. As soon as I did this the re-installation over the top of my previus continued and everything works fine again. For some reason when the install program would try remove any of the cache files or folers it was getting a permissions error. If you try this - please make sure you back up before you do it to protect all your hard work. |

OK I logged out of Gallery, cleared the cache and authenticated sessions (and browsing history and form information, but I don't think those did anything to help with this problem) in Firefox. I did not clear the cookies. Then I closed Firefox. You do this in Tools > Clear Private Data. Then it worked for me. Thanks scooby. Must be something with the cache or the sessions. |

I encountered the same problem after using the new Gallery version 2.1.1 with the most recent Gallery remote for some time. I just wanted to confirm that the fix from iWill's Sat, 2006-05-27 00:11 post worked. You don't have to clear private data in Firefox if you don't want to lose that. 1. Make sure you log OUT of your gallery from your browser first (otherwise stale session cache remains) |

Hrmmm, I was experiencing this problem a few days ago. I was using FireFox and getting "Upload error: Upload failed: 'user id: 5 doesn't have permission: core.addDataItem for item id: 4590'." I switched to Safari and it works fine...seems to be something with the cache. Cleared the FireFox cache and works fine for me now. |

We have an open bug about this. It's the best place to check for status updates, but I will try and remember to post here when it is resolved. http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1564288&group_id=7130&atid=107130 If you found my help useful, please consider donating to Gallery. |

For what it is worth. I could not get the upload applet to work on my machine running FireFox. It does work on the same machine running IE7. iWill's solution did not fix it for me. Rich |

I have a few users with the same problem. I've done a migration from 1.5 to 2.1.2. I know of 2 users who can upload using the applet, and 2 that can't. All can upload via the "From Web Browser" I'd be happy to help out in any way I can.. Brian Gallery version = 2.1.2 core 1.1.0.2 |

I never had this problem before until today I installed a new multisite. Several photos were successfully uploaded using applelet, then the rest weren't: "Upload error: Upload failed: 'user id: 5 doesn't have permission: core.addDataItem for item id: 22'." I updated Java Platform, clear temp files, still not working. Finally I logged out/in, then it worked! Gallery version = 2.1.2 core 1.1.0.2 |

Hi, all. I'm trying to reproduce and fix this bug, but currently I'm unable to reproduce it. If anybody on this thread can still reproduce the problem can you let me know? I'd really like to see all the traffic between your browser and your Gallery2 install so that I can figure out if the applet is sending the wrong authentication information. Thanks! |

I've encountered this problem a few times before, and I've done the browser cache clearing method, but it hasn't always worked for me. I realized the fairly obvious step that I may be missing (from the times when it did work for me): - Log out of Gallery Hope this helps! ---Here's my sys info:--- |

In order to figure this out, I think I need to see the HTTP traffic between client and server when the problem is happening. I can probably figure this out from a tcpdump or tcpflow trace, if anybody can provide that. Or if you can give me direct (shell) access to your Gallery while the problem is happening I can instrument the Gallery code to see what's going on. If anybody can help out with that, I can probably nail this one down. Thanks! -------------- |
