i wish i knew what this app is doing by connecting to

http://www.menalto.com

any idea

Of course it's not snooping!

It's checking for an update. You can disable that by setting the following properties in your GalleryRemote.properties file:

# Check for updates on launch
updateCheck=false

# Check for unofficial beta updates on launch
updateCheckBeta=false
