Greetings!
I've got Gallery 1.5.3 integrated w/ Joomla v1.0.8. The integration itself is fine. However, when logged into Joomla as a Super-Admin I've tried to perform Admin tasks in Gallery. Such as add or delete albums in Gallery. Upon doing so I get a pop up dialog box that reads...
" init.php: Gallery seems to be inside Mambo, but we couldn't get the necessary info." —Nothing results from this.
It appears to me that gallery can't read the "init.php" file when integrated. Also, it thinks it's imbedded within Mambo, not Joomla. I made sure to use the proper integration component that's specified for Joomla also. I'm surprised it's mentioning Mambo in this dialog box. Is there a fix to this so I don't need to log into Gallery separately to perform admin tasks?
Your help is greatly appreciated!

Hi,
if you are running Joomla 1.0.8 set the "Session Authentication Method" in Joomlas Global Configuration to "Level 1 Backward - Compatibility".

I hope that helps.

Ok, I found the setting under the "server" tab.
But after I applied it and performed gallery's admin tasks through Joomla; the following error message appeared...
" Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /public_html/gallery/classes/User.php on line 225 "
Something is not working. But I'll continue to poke around with this...

I'm running into the same "init.php" error, running Joomla 1.0.10, and Gallery 1.5.4 (It was happening in previous verisons, and I just upgraded Gallery in the hopes it would fix it - no luck).
I've tried setting the Session Authenticaiton Method to Level 1, but again, no luck.
I should note that I am also using SMF 1.1RC2 with the bridge from SMF's forums - the one that does *not* require you to modify any code. I'm not sure if this matters, but other people have noted it as a possible cause.
I've even uninstalled the Gallery component from Joomla and re-installed it after the update to 1.5.4, to no avail.
Has anyone found a reliable fix for this?

Did you have a resolve for this error issue?
Is this happening because of the SMF intergration?

Any word on a solution for this?

I've updated to Gallery 1.5.5, and Joomla is still good ol' 1.0.11. Some of thie issues seem to have been cleared up (I can edit photos and captions, etc.), but one of the main features - the ability to set permissions and ownership of albums - is still not working.
Is there any news on how to resolve this? I'm running Gallery 1.5.5, Joomla 1.0.11, and SMF 1.1RC3, with Bridge 1.1.6 from the official SMF Forums. Will Gallery 1.6 resolve this?

Good grief... all of the research I've done shows that this problem goes back THREE YEARS... I'm still BANGING on it trying to figure out what's wrong. ANYBODY ever figure it out or we just wasting time now?

In my Joomla, I noticed that the Add-In for Gallery was listed as 1.5.2 - not 1.5.5, like the Gallery itself. I'm guessing it's still Mambo based, and not actually updated for Joomla.
Hopefully 1.6 will fix this... Or, we can put in an actual Bug Report. I think I will go do that now.

I put in the bug report, and received a response that this was not a bug, but a configuration issue that had been answered already on the forums. I pointed out that none of us could find the solution, and after 4 months no one had been able to answer this thread, either.
I suggested a documentation page on the official Gallery website for the correct configuration, and they will try this - the documentation I was referred to in the /cotrib/joomla lacked the details necessary to actually configure it correctly.
Hopefully we'll have an answer soon, or at least a link to an existing one.

Geoffrey, thanks for your private message.
Ok, I have installed the SMF Forum, SMF Bridge 1.1.6 and Gallery 1.5.5 pl1 on my testsite and can reproduce the issue.
With the installed SMF-Bridge I receive the "init.php: Gallery seems to be inside Mambo, but we couldn't get the necessary info." error.
After unpublishing the "SMF_header_include" Mambot in Joomla's Mambot Manager and deleting all cookies the Gallery popups and admin stuff work again without problems.
Same problem with the Joomla-SMF Forum Bridge from joomlahacks.com after patching Joomla's index.php.
I think the SMF Components and the Gallery1 Component for Joomla are not compatible.
Maybe it will work with the upcomming Gallery 1.6

Thank you for the confirmation - we know where to begin looking now.
I'll keep an eye out for Gallery 1.6 - if this does not resolve it, I'll see if I can coordinate between the SMF Bridge and Gallery folks to get a fix in place.
Thank you again, and Happy New Years!

My site now works like a charm... I just hope it is integrated into the bridge from here out, or I'll forget to change it each time I upgrade. ;-)

Thanks for responding Kai !
I'm using SMF 1.1 Joomla Bridge 1.1.6
I still don't see SMF_header_include.php in the mambot/system folder.

Hmm, I have just installed SMF 1.1 Joomla Bridge 1.1.7 and I can see the SMF_header_include.php in joomlaroot/mambots/system/
