I translated checkout module in italian, how to compile it?

I translated the .po file but, if I well understand, for compile it I need additional files not present on normal checkuot distribution; maybe only developers of checkout module have it. Someone help me please?

If there is no "po" directory in checkout module simply make the directory and copy GNUmakefile from any other modules/*/po dir.

In the checkout po directory I found these files:
GNUmakefile message.po strings.raw
I copied here my translated file "it.po" and do the command: make it.po, but receive this error:

$ make it.po
GNUmakefile:4: ../../../lib/tools/po/GNUmakefile.inc: No such file or directory
make: *** No rule to make target `../../../lib/tools/po/GNUmakefile.inc'. Stop.name@domain/var/www/gallery2/modules/checkout/po

I suppose that I must install a package, wich?
where I wrong?

You can also use e.g. the tool poEdit from Sourceforge to complie .po into .mo.
You just then need to rename it and copy to the right place.

From the "Requirements" section in the docs I directed you to above:

the checkout module I need to translate (http://codex.gallery2.org/index.php/Gallery2:Modules:checkout) is not included in the gallery2 package, why I download the nightly snapshot of g2?

that is why^
add checkout module to a G2 distribution that includes all the language tools.

Ok, now I have te italian.po and italian.mo file of checkout module translated with poeditor, and the nightly snapshot of gallery... what's the next steps?

assuming you have tested it out in G2 and it works, I guess send the po file to the maintainers of the checkout module.

Translation don't work; messages on my gallery site are only in english.
I followed this procedure:

After translated the message.po file with poeditor, and obtained the it.po and it.mo files, I created some folders under checkout module directory called "locale" -> "it" -> "LC_MESSAGES" and copied in the it.mo file (I copied the structure from other modules, cart, for example); then I reloaded my gallery2 site. I tried to reinstall entire checkout module and reconfigure, but italian language don't work.

I'm stuck, help me please.

it's really better to use the makefile as describe in the instructions, then everything goes in the right place. if you made your own it.mo then you need to name in modules_checkout.mo in the LC_MESSAGES dir.

The problem was the name of the .mo file; I rename how you suggest and now work; how do you know correct name for the .mo files? the make command name it in _.mo. Translation work, but not completely; some messages, although have a translation in po file, is displayed only in english, for example "add %s to cart"; how to resolve this issue? Besides some message don't present in the original po file, for example "Empty cart" button, how to translate this? I need to add to the original po files and translate in it.po file?

I need to translate the module checkout by email too, but don't exist a source .po file... how to do this? create a new po file?

for modules/modname the mo files is modules_modname.mo
if a string is missing from the po file you need to contact the module developer and ask them to make sure that string is translatable. For example, in a tpl file "Empty cart" is not translated, but {g->text text="Empty cart"} is.

I translate 100% of module adding, in the po file, omitted phrase. Now only "add album/photo to cart" show only in english. I'm contact developer, thanks for suggestion.

Small news: I'm discovered that the translation of phrase "add %s to cart" of checkout module is a bug, I see it on sourceforge, and I hope the developer fix it quickly.

Another question: I tryed to translate module checkoutemail, that don't have original po file (messages.po). I created two .po files; one called messages.po (I copied it from checkout module and modified with words contained in string.raw file of the checkoutemail module); another file called it.po file with translation. The make command worked, and make install commant too, but in gallery translation don't work. I rename the _.mo file created by make command in modules_checkoutemail.mo.

Do you have idea where I'm wrong?
Maybe isn't possible tanslate without original .po source file?
