integration with f-spot?

I am investigating using some photo management software for my website.

At the moment my photos are managed in f-spot, which I really like. They are arranged in one large folder in subfolders by date, and I use tags in f-spot to separate them. However if I am to use gallery, I need a way to integrate it with f-spot on my local computer. Can this be done? Ideally exporting photos to gallery should preserve tags and descriptions.

I've never tried gallery before so forgive me if my questions are a bit naive. Forgive me too if this has been raised elsewhere on the forum, I couldn't find a search tool!!
