Help to build a plugin to import a G1 gallery from another host to G2

Hi, I'd like to import a large G1 gallery (about 8 GB) from another host (let's call host1), to a another host, where I've installed G2.2 (let's call it host2). My problem is that I have 10 GB of webspace, so it's not suitable to upload all the old G1 gallery to host2 and then from host2 import it to G2. It would require 16GB opf webspace, which i don't have. What I have is shell access to host1. Unluckily I only have FTP access to host2. I know the basics of PHP and I'd like to create a new import plugin, to do what I want. I'm sure it can be useful to other people too. About security issues: I think that photos.dat and album.dat (of G1) can be accessible only locally, unless I chmod them 777, right? So this would be enough to avoid other users to leech a G1 gallery if you thought this could be a problem of such a plugin... Any ideas, help are appreciated. Thanks for letting me know |

- g1 and g2 need to be on the same host when migrating.
- see our suggestions for iterative migration in docs -> installation -> migratinf from galler 1. this is to solve the limited web-space issue.
- having both installations on one system is also important for the reliability of the process. remotes hosts imply latency and possibly slow transfers more likely leading to timeouts and migration errors.
