Hi! I ran into another issue: I wanted to download more plugins, so i tried (free translated from german GUI): update-process seems to be OK, it goes from 0 to 100%, showing me each plugin currently loads. But after I hit the CONMTINUE-Button, I get: Quote:
Error downloading index from 'http://gallery.menalto.com/repository/released/index'. How to fix this?

Hello: I am having this same issue. I was running svn 2.3, but installed last stable version instead. The issue seemed to happen after this install. I reused existing tables during install. I ran integrity check and the results follow my system info. Please suggest a solution when you can, thanks in advance! Gallery version = 2.2.2 core 1.2.0.4 Integrity Check/Last Run Details: Checked 7 entities |

I am encountering the same issue since I first installed and tried Gallery2.0-RC1. The Version of Gallery2 I am using is 2.2.3. But I do not thnik that the version is the problem, because the Pluginrepository did never ever work for me. I tried to get the repository January, 21st 2008 at 16:18 MET (middle european time). --------------------------------- Kind regards <a href="http://www.zeph4.de">http://www.zeph4.de</a> |

Zephyr82 It seems to me that I had to clear out my data base and do a fresh install to resolve the plugin issue. I don't know enough about database issues to know if this was the issue, but look at my earlier post, under integrity check, and note orphan table entries. Maybe you can run a fresh install in a different directory with the latest version, and leave your other gallery intact to eliminate software/server/hardware configuration factors. Since I ran the new install, Gallery is running smoothly. I am running this configuration: Gallery version = 2.2.3 core 1.2.0.5 |

I have had the "Error downloading index from 'http://gallery.menalto.com/repository/released/index'." error also. This is after it was working a few weeks ago. Cleared database / cache didn't help. I tested connectivity using 'wget http://gallery.menalto.com/repository/released/index' which worked fine so no firewall problems blocking the downloads. I thought it may have been because my 'data.gallery.base' value '/srv/g2data/' was actually pointing to the gallery data folder via a symlink /srv > /home/srv so I changed it to the correct filesystem path /home/srv/g2data and then RESTARTED apache. All of a sudden the download worked. Out of curiousity I change the data.gallery.base value from /home/srv/g2data back to the original /srv/g2data/ and restarted Apache and the download still works. So it looks as though restarting Apache may have fixed the issue in my case. The posts above seem to indicate that the problem is intermittent. My Gallery Details: |

Hey guys, this is really stumped me. I've tried reinstalling, I've tried making a new database, I've tried clearing the database and template caches. The first time I try with a clear database cache I can't get a list of the available plugins/modules and I can the same message as the people above: "Error downloading index from 'http://gallery.menalto.com/repository/community/index'. If I try to download again, without clearing the database cache, I get this message: Estimated time remaining: 1:20 Memory used: 6997784, total: 16M Error (ERROR_STORAGE_FAILURE) * in modules/core/classes/GalleryStorage/GalleryStorageExtras.class at line 1106 (gallerycoreapi::error) I've been trying this for about 12 hours. Any ideas? Gallery version = 2.2.5 core 1.2.0.7 |

You want to disable the released repository as until R2.3 final ships, the released repository will point at R2.2 plugins, which may or may not be compatible. Have you tried refreshing the plugin list as well, I just downloaded some plugins from the experimental repository w/o problems Hope this helps |

Please look at http://gallery.menalto.com/node/82545, I've posted a test script there that you can use to verify that your host is operating correctly. |

Hi, and first off thanks to everyone for their efforts. I am having this same problem, recently did a fresh install of stable 2.3, and am unable to use the download plugins, or the PicLens slideshow module. I host my own site, and have DSL from AT&T on the East Coast. Here is my info: Gallery version = 2.3 core 1.3.0 I have tried the various steps outlined in this thread, but no joy. Thanks. |

I wanted to add another entry I found in the Apache error logs, may help: [Sun Nov 30 18:13:58 2008] [error] [client <MY.PUBLIC.IP>] PHP Fatal error: Class 'GalleryRepository' not found in /var/www/html/gallery2/modules/core/RepositoryCallback.inc on line 80, referer: http://www.MY.URL.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.SiteAdmin&g2_subView=core.AdminRepository Thanks again. |

Some more detail: When I select 'Download Plugins', I see the progress bar, and it completes 100%, but automatically goes to the next page instead of waiting for me to click continue. Could this be a class or includes error? |

That happens for me too. I think that's a function of that page now, where in the past you had to click continue. So is the page actually updating the plugins then and you're just seeing some errors in your error log? I guess I should have read further up in this post. Looks like Bharat posted a test script here: I would also verify the integrity of your gallery install: |

I checked the install files, and they look good: Gallery file integrity Success The only warning is Output Buffering is disabled. I'll run the script tonight. Thanks! |

I've tried the FsockOpen.php script a few times, and there is no output. I also tried the IP address script, and it returned my LAN IP vs my WAN IP. Since I am able to perform a wget, and the errors I'm seeing reference a missing class in the GalleryCore, I'm not sure where to go next. Thoughts? As a workaround, can you tell me what directory I can manually download and place the index file for both community and released plugins? Not sure if they are related, but the 2 repeating errors I see in the Gallery event logs are: Error Detail - Error Detail - I've reviewed my permissions against the G2 docs, and mine are actually a bit more lax than recommended, so I'm not sure what system or call is being denied, as always, any help is appreciated. |

Hello If you have any firewall up, disable it temporarily and see if you can proceed. I have gotten weird errors at times because of firewalls; also, did you clean out cache in maintenance? I had an issue like this last year, and the way I was able to get around it was to reinstall to the latest version; you may want to try a clean install in another dir can see if you can get that to work...best of luck GIJosh. This problem is widespread and has been reported repeatedly for YEARS. From perusal of forums it sounds like it is caused by the gallery.menalto.com server refusing a connection, especially perhaps when that connection comes from quite some distance?? Do this test from your server: wget gallery.menalto.com This works fine from my local PC, but when I remote log in to my server and try it from there, it fails with error "Connection refused." In 2008, Gallery developers posted that they had found the problem at their end and fixed it, and for a while the problem seemed to disappear, but here it is June 2010 and I have the same problem. What is going on? I suspect this has something to do with my web host being in Germany. The round-trip delay to U.S. is pretty long sometimes, could that be an issue? I notice that it appears that Gallery2 successfully gets a list of plugins, because there is a bunch of text activity that appears to indicate things are going well. The failure occurs only at the very end, after it navigates away from the "updating repository index" page and back to the get-plugins page. The test script mentioned in some earlier threads and posts fails the fsockopen() on my system, but this is because the connection it is trying to open is refused at the remote end. To recap the problem, it is these errors when trying to get new plugins: Quote:
Error downloading index from 'http://gallery.menalto.com/repository/released/index'. My own phpinfo.htm file is attached, showing phpinfo() output, which I created by making file phpinfo.php on my server, browsing to it, and saving the resulting html page. The phpinfo.php file is simple to make, it is just this: Quote:
<?php My system info is: Quote:
Gallery URL = http://toal.us/gallery2/main.php |

Same problem here. Any solution in sight yet? Edit: I tried a script I found in one of the other topics; this is the result: Warning: fsockopen() [function.fsockopen]: unable to connect to gallery.menalto.com:80 (Network is unreachable) in /home/www/beeldbank.nederlandmetro.nl/fsockopen_test.php on line 4 Warning: fwrite(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /home/www/beeldbank.nederlandmetro.nl/fsockopen_test.php on line 5 Warning: fread(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /home/www/beeldbank.nederlandmetro.nl/fsockopen_test.php on line 6 Warning: fclose(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /home/www/beeldbank.nederlandmetro.nl/fsockopen_test.php on line 7 Works fine if I put any other URL in there other than "gallery.menalto.com" (e.g. my own). |

in order to use fsockopen, you need allow_url_fopen enabled in your php.ini -s |

Ah ha! Thanks for that bit of info, nero-ben. I recently configured the site to use IPv6 but we were having some firewall issues, which should be resolved now. Can you try again with the IPv6 routes re-enabled? That'd be very helpful... |

I retried but still some connection problem at layer 4: Quote:
root@[BLOB]:~# ping6 gallery.menalto.com * Layer 4 is not working: Quote:
root@[BLOB]:~# wget http://gallery.menalto.com/repository/released/index ... and with a tcpdump trace if it can help: Quote:
root@[BLOB]:~# tcpdump -i sixxs -n tcp port 80 I tried a wget to two other IPv6 websites (ipv6.google.com for example) and it works for them. |

Hrm. It's working for me: $ wget -6 -O- -v http://gallery.menalto.com/repository/released/index --09:15:07-- http://gallery.menalto.com/repository/released/index => `-' Resolving gallery.menalto.com... 2001:470:1:12d::252 Connecting to gallery.menalto.com|2001:470:1:12d::252|:80... connected. HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 200 OK Length: unspecified [application/g2-pkg] ...
I'm making my test request from a server on a different network. Any ideas on what's different between your setup and mine? |

Ok. Solved! I found the issue: MTU size. I changed my MTU and it works. I don't know if you are familiar with IPv6 but one of the changes (improvement in my opinion) from IPv4 is the impossibility to fragment the IP packet in the transport [1]. Just the source and the destination can fragment. So there is no problem from your side any more. [1] IETF RFC 2460 - http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2460 |
