PictureSync is a Mac (—Windows soon) desktop annotation and upload application for multiple photo-sharing/hosting services (e.g. Flickr, Facebook, Smugmug, Shutterfly…). It has integration with iPhoto, Aperture, Lightroom and MediaPro/Expression Media, and includes an IPTC/XMP editor. PictureSync can be used free, but licences may also be purchased for $15 and $30.

I have currently only tested the plugin with Gallery 2.2.3/Remote Protocol 2.11 but it should be compatible back to protocol 2.2, and I will be adding compatibility for older releases as issues are made aware to me. Please leave feedback on this blog post, or send feedback from PictureSync's Help menu.

The program seamed cool... until I saw the price tag for the Lightroom integration...

You mean the cost of Lightroom, or the cost of PictureSync? You don't need the $30 licence to use PictureSync with Lightroom (just Aperture and Expression Media/MediaPro). In fact you don't have to buy one at all. However if you're laying out cash on a professional DAM application like Lightroom, I don't think it's an unreasonable price to pay to save yourself some time.

My mistake...

I read the website and thought that the product had special prices for each DAM... So I thought the product was $299 for Lightroom, which was way too expensive ;-)

I'll check it once again when it will be available on Win XP ;-)

i am running gallery version 2.2.3 (the most up-to-date) but with this version, the remote module is only at version 1.09.

am i missing something or is that a typo in the first message (this thread) where it is stated that Picturesync works with Gallery 2.2.3/Remote Protocol 2.11 ?

i cannot get picturesync to work at all. it seems to go away and upload something, takes a while, then gives me the following,

there is no evidence of any uploaded file on the server.

where is picturesync trying to upload the image to? main album in my gallery ?
any ideas where i can get gallery remote protocol "2.11" ?
is there any better documentation on the web on using PictureSync with Gallery ?

Johnny, there was a bug in the last release of the Gallery plugin that prevented uploading to the (default) root album, but uploading to other albums was fine (using the 'Upload To…' option—either click the popup at the bottom of the Upload button, use the file menu, or set it as the default in the preferences).

Do however also check that your login has permissions to upload to the root album, whilst only albums that you have permissions for are shown in 'Upload To…', the 'Main Gallery' is [currently] always shown regardless. If you have any queries please choose Help>Send Feedback in PictureSync.

BTW specific error messages are reported in the console.
