Hi i am trying to migrate from one server to another (1and1 to servage) and trying to upgrade from gallery 1.4 or 1.5 to 2.2.1
when i put in the path http://s######.onlinehome.us/gallery/albums/ in the Path to Gallery 1 albums directory it seems that it will only pull if it is on the same server. is this correct?

the path to import G1 albums never begins with http://, rather /local/path/to/gallery/albums/ (the slashes is different in Windows)
FAQ: How can I move my gallery installation from one server to another?

ok perhaps i was not clear. i need to accomplish 2 things:
1) i need to move from one server to another
2) i need to upgrade from gallery 1 (1.4 or 1.5 i think) to gallery 2
should i :
1) copy the g1 one install from one server to another then do the upgrade?
2) upgrade the g1 install to g2 then move from one server to another?
is there any workaround to make it a 1 step process?

ok so i did #1 move then upgrade and it worked almost flawlessly.
here was my experience:
copied 1.5 gig of g1 install from server 1
made a path on server 2 and uploaded
time: 3 hours download 7 upload
tried repeatedly to import using the url and found that the URL has nothing to do with the import location
in frustration i tried to open the g1 install and could not. i reread the g1 install notes and deleted the config.php
then i could get into the setup and lo and behold in the first page of the setup was the path with had all the usr/xxx/www/xxx/g1/
i copied that and pasted in the import field in g2 and... it was the wrong url but only slightly i had to add something like albums or g1 or something.
anyway it then pulled up all the albums ot import. i unchecked the url mapping thing to make sure that it copied and then ran a test on importing 2 albums 1 near the beginning and 1 near the end. both imported flawlessly. i then imported 2 more from the middle inbetween these and they also imported perfectly and the order was preserved. so then i got cocky and tried to import all. somewhere in the middle it froze. i refreshed the page and it froze again on the same image. i checked the original g1 and the image wasnt' there... this was btw after i had run the orphan search and everything so i deleted the placeholder from the album and then ran a compare overwrite sync in wsftp and overwrote the newly updated files for removing that picture.
i then checked the server and found that with my refresh it had double imported. i went to the gallery interface and deleted all of the imported albums and then reimported.
this time it hung on the building thumbnails which i couldn;t care less about so i just pathed back to the main gallery page and all has been good so far
if you need help doing the same thing i can perhaps try and help you i am subscribed to this thread so just reply and i will get an email
