Hi!
I've written a module that automatically sets an albums timestamp based on the times of the items it contains.
http://leo.kloburg.at/gallery/albumtimestamp/
When new items are added or items are modified, the timestamp of the album should be automatically adapted according to its setting.
The new options in Edit Album -> General are:
Automatically set Album Time: may be set to one of:
- Inherited setting (use the settings derived from the parent albums)
- Do not set this albums timestamp automatically
- Use the timestamp of the newest item in this album
- Use the timestamp of the oldest item in this album
Setting for new Sub-Albums: may be set to one of:
- Do not set an explicit mode for new subalbums.
- Use the timestamp of the newest item in this album
- Use the timestamp of the oldest item in this album
There is also an option to "Force timestamp updates of this album and all of its subalbums now."
I am using the following settings for my albums:
In the main album that contains only sub-folders, I am using "Use the timestamp of the newest item in this album" so that the timestamp of the root-folder represents the "last-modified" time. But the setting for new sub-albums is "Use the timestamp of the oldest item in this album" because for new albums that represent events like a birthday-pary, I'd like to use the timestamp of the first image in this album.
Have fun,

Looks good. I've been after something like this for years, but haven't seen anything, and haven't got round to doing it myself. Thanks.
Have you considered adding it to the community repository so that it is easy for people to install without leaving gallery?

I'd appreciate having the plugin in the community repository.
However, I don't have write access to the repository, so if anyone feels up to adding it, I'd be happy...

I can add it for you or (better) you can get SVN access to add it yourself and then u'll be able to update it easily whenever u want. You need a sf.net account and then need to contact (I think) ckdake or bharat with the username to get granted access.

Yes just ask ckdake ( http://gallery.menalto.com/user/35392 ) a PM and tell him what you want to do.
Some docs:

Hi,
I just installed albumtimestamp on my Gallery2.3. Unfortunately nobody was able to register anymore after this step. I even had no chance to create a user on my own in the administration. After I had disabled the module everything was fine again. Is this a known problem? Is there any connection to other modules which do not work in together with albumtimestamp?
Thanks for your answers

Hi!
Thanks for the report!
I fixed the bug and uploaded a new version (0.2.0).
There are currently no known incompatibilities.
If you find one, please report again.
Cheers,

Hello -
The new verion of albumtimestamp doesn't appear to be available from within my Gallery installation. I updated the plugins list, and it says that the "Latest" version is 0.1.0 ?? Where would I find version 0.2.0 ??

I've also updated the one in the community repository - didn't notice that this had been updated.
